  1. I believe that the NBA should be able to rest their players. I do not think that is it fair for fans to be disappointed by this. When you are watching a game, you want your team to win as a whole, not just a single player. While it is a bonus to watch your favorite player play they are just like you and need well deserved rest. If these players did not get rest, they would not play as well, and then the team may not play/rank as well. These rests are also critical for their health. Many athletes suffer multiple injuries throughout their careers, and it is important to avoid them if possible. The rests allow for athletes to recover, and live their lives outside of their sport.

  2. I believe that NBA teams should be allowed to rest their players. These athletes are expected to practice for countless hours, play their hearts out, and lead their respective teams to victory. They do so much more than we could ever do, and they deserve to rest. I would prefer to see my favorite team win than to see my favorite player dominate the game. Getting rest days helps these players recuperate and continue to be the stars they are.

However, I do understand where the fans are coming from. It stinks to buy an expensive ticket and not see your favorite player compete. I used to be a big Yankees fan, but once my favorite players retired, I lost a good amount of interest in their games. Seeing the game is still nice, but I don't care as much about the team anymore.

Overall, these players need rest. They need time to ice their bruises and reduce their soreness. Basketball is not an individual sport: in order for the team to win, they need their players to be in tip-top shape, which is impossible if the players aren't given time to rest.

  3. I believe personally that a players ability to rest in the NBA is kind of stupid. Players who were arguably "better" in the old days were not resting unless they were sick, and even then players like Jordan played with the flu. That being said I think that teams in the NBA should still have the ability to rest their players because winning championships is more about strategy than actual talent. If there is a "throw away game" then a franchise player who is great doesn't need to strain themselves if the team can win without them or there is a more important game later on. The NBA season is around 80 games so it is understandable for a player who pushes themselves to get tired before the playoffs. From a fans perspective this simply put, sucks. The reason fans purchase these expensive tickets is for these franchise players so it is pretty disappointing to go and see your team not trying or not playing their best players. However I believe that its all about strategy rather than pleasing fans and acting tough to win a championship. GMs and owners are there to win championships and if this is the strategy they choose to use then they should have that right.

  4. In my opinion, I think that is it okay for teams to rest players. I think that one of the most important things for a team is the health of their players, and if they are overworked they could get injured and not be healthy for the playoffs or even the end of the season. Even though fans might be upset about not seeing the star of their team play in person, I think that as a fan it's more important to have less injuries at the right time than to win a random game. Coaches know what is best for their players, and when players are having pain and need a day or two off, they should get one. Yes, it's upsetting to not see a favorite player, but the main goal of a win the NBA finals, which can only be possible with healthy players.

  5. I think that NBA teams should be able to rest their players. If somebody argues that they aren't going to be able to see their favorite player for the whole game, they are pretty much arguing to having that same player possibly get hurt from overworking. Us students need a lot of rest even after sitting down all day, so why would it be fair to not give these athletes their much needed rest when they are tired? The coaches are the ones that know their personnel the best and know what is best for the team. Sometimes playing a backup who is not tired over a star that is exhausted is a better option.

  6. I think NBA teams should rest their players. The health of the players is more important than satisfying the fans - if the players don't rest, they are more susceptible to injury and therefore could get an season-ending injury. In this case, the fans wouldn't be able to watch their favorite player play anyway. Resting and recovering is extremely important and vital for an athlete. An overworked, tired player will most likely perform worse than the backup players that isn't tired. Also, the coaches know what is best for their players. An NBA coach wouldn't take out a star player for no reason.

  7. I think that NBA should rest their players. Every players deserves to be able to rest a game or so, especially if you are one to play basically every game, most of the game. On the other hand, when you go to see a game specifically for one player and they are resting, I see how it is a disappointment to not get to see them however, it would be much better to have them sit that one game and rest, rather than get injured and not be able to play for a while, or even not play ever again in severe cases. I believe letting these top players rest is a huge component and not letting them rest would have them out of the sport much faster, and even not preforming as well when they do play if they aren't getting enough rest.

  8. I think NBA players should be able to rest but I think it is up to the coach and trainers of each team to decide how long they will rest and for which games. For example if they are playing a team they should win easily against then the best players who play the most games should get a chance to rest in order to prevent injury. However I do see as a fan how it is upsetting to pay to go to a game to see your favorite players play and then to have them all be resting that night. I think it should be up to the team and players to work out a schedule that is healthy for the player.

  9. I believe NBA players should be allowed to rest their players. Yes, it is a bummer for those fans that went to see their favorite player, but it's a team sport. These athletes get tired and need rest. Resting players might help reduce injuries for them and in the end, produce a better output. It's the coach's decision whether or not a player plays, so if they want to rest them, they can.

  10. I believe that NBA players should be allowed to rest. When you have an 82 game schedule throughout 6 months it can put a strain on your body. It is important to rest especially for the playoff teams. For all of Lebrons career he has been going for into the playoffs and year after year it starts to show and with a team like the cavs who will get a top seed there is no need to play right now. Let the athletes rest there bodies for the playoffs.

  11. I believe NBA teams should be able to rest their players. When you play 82 games, one almost every other night and occasionally play 4 games in 5 nights, everyone needs a game off. I think NBA teams should try not to rest all their stars at once, as it damages the experience for the fans. But if a guy like LeBron who's played so much and on a team that has a high seed, guys do need the rest to perform very well in the playoffs.

  12. I think resting players in the NBA is just wrong . People pay large amounts of money to see these players play, sometimes travel far distances too. These players are payed millions of dollars to play. They should play. this sport is for the fans so give the fans what they payed for.

  13. I believe NBA teams should be able to do whatever they want with their players. It is a franchise and they are paying their players tens of millions of dollars and they can't afford to lose any of them to injury or fatigue. Yes, they want to win the most games possible but if one of them go down with a torn ACL, then they will lose a lot more games then one in the long run. The coach has complete control of their players in every situation.

  14. I think that Teams should be able to choose how they plan on handling their players. While NBA executives may be unhappy, think of the long-term outcome. Big time players like Lebron James play so many game throughout the season and then have Olympic games in the summer too. The strain that some of these players take can end of running them down come playoff time when the NBA makes their real revenue. You want the best players playing at their best ability come April May and June. If Lebron sits out a game in January fans may be unhappy but at the end of the day you still get to watch professional athletes play. Come NBA playoff time when Lebron James puts up a ridiculous stat line, NBA executives and fans will surely be happy.

  15. I think that NBA teams should be allowed to rest their players because it keeps them fresh. By keeping your star players fresh it creates less room for injury. It is more importnat for a team to win the finals than a couple regular season games that don't affect their chances for the play offs.
Of course the fans love to see the star players play so there will be some backlash. The fans want to see their star players play.
It is about more than that though. It is about staying competitive. If the team can't stay competitive because of injuries a fan base can be lost. The players have to think long term to be successful in the NBA and that means missing a couple games.

  16. I believe the NBA has the right to rest their players. Professional players play a lot of back to back games so there is no point in making them play more so that they are more prone to injury. Maybe if there were a certain amount of games that they could sit out of each year. I think coaches should have the decision to say who sits each game and whether the player is too worn to play the games that they will probably win anyways. It is better to keep them for the playoffs anyways so that they can play their best when it really counts.

  17. I believe that NBA players should be allowed to rest occasionally. While it is understandable that fans should get to see the stars play, it is unfair to force a tired player to play. It is especially understandable that players want to rest given the NBA schedule. Players often have back to back games, and star players that play between 35-40 minutes per game such as Lebron James need the rest to maintain the high level. People often complain because they want to see the stars playing at the high level, but without the occasional rest, players like Lebron will not play at a high level at all. Plus, teams like the Cavs that already trust themselves to have a high seed in the playoffs can afford one late regular season loss. The playoffs are much more important for them.

  18. I believe that NBA teams should be allowed to rest their players whenever they want. The NBA season is long with 81 games and depending how far a players team makes it into the playoffs, players could potentially play up to 100 games in a season. Playing everyone of those games without rest puts a lot of wear and tear on a players body. Older players who play lots of minutes, like Lebron, can't play the entire regular season without rest and expect to succeed in the playoffs. Especially now where teams have begun to clinch playoff seeds, there is very little reason for players on those teams to be playing the rest of the games in the season. Resting these players will help give them an advantage over teams that cannot rest their players and go farther into the playoffs. Teams should have a restriction on how many games they can rest their players. That way players aren't rested to much and will play in games that are televised on the big networks.
