I believe that the NBA lottery is a good system. I don't think that just because a team is bad they deserve a better pick. They obviously need it more, but the lottery does favor the teams who are worse. I think that the lottery is a good system because it is weighted fairly. Teams who are worse have a much better chance of getting a pick early on, and the better teams are more likely to have a later pick. Many other sports have the draft go in order from worst to best team, but the worst team doesn't necessarily deserve the first pick. It could very well be their fault that they did poorly, so they shouldn't be given the first pick for that. I think that giving a team a better shot of getting an early pick is fair, and I do not think the lottery should be changed.
I think that the lottery for the NBA draft is a good system. I think this is a good system because it gives the worse teams a good chance at a high pick but doesn't guarantee them a high pick. This means that teams are less likely to "tank" which is when teams lose on purpose to get a high draft pick. Tanking is prevalent in the other major sports, and it hurts the league. The reason that people would be against the lottery is because they think the worse teams should get the best draft picks. Although the lottery system doesn't guarantee this, the outcome of the lottery is usually very close to this.
On the surface the lottery seems like it may be an unfair system, because the worst placing team is not guaranteed. However, the article brings up a good point; why would we reward the worst performing team? A team that is rewarded for mediocrity is most likely not going to learn its lesson. I think that we should have a system similar to the way sports are controlled in Europe. The article mentioned that abysmal teams, like the Heat, should simply be demoted to a worse league, while they simultaneously move up a deserving team and bring them into the NBA. It works out well for these European sports leagues and I believe that it is time a similar system is at least given some thought in the US.
I think the lottery is a fair system because it doesn't guarantee the worse teams a better pick, but it gives them good chance at a high pick. The lottery system prevents teams from purposely losing to get a good pick and is more fair. Worse teams are guaranteed a better pick in other sports, which can be unfair and counterproductive. However, in the NBA lottery, worse teams are not guaranteed but are more likely a higher pick. I do not think the lottery system should be changed because it is a good, fair system.
I think it is unfair because the worse teams have a possibility of getting not one of the top 3 draft picks. A better team has the opportunity to get a better draft pick because they are better teams, therefore the better teams will continue to strive and be better and the worse teams will not have the chance to improve there teams and get better. It gives the chance of teams to get younger and rebuild there organizations.
I think the lottery is a fair system because it doesn't necessarily give the first pick to whoever has the worst season. If one team purposely bombs their season, they aren't guaranteed the first pick. It's not right to the league and their fans to purposely lose games. Yes, they'll still have a high chance at getting the number 1 pick, but it gives the other teams at the bottom a chance too. Then again, there's also the other side of it. If a team is really awful, they can get really unlucky and score a higher pick. But it's all part of the lottery. There are no guarantees. It's also very entertaining to watch as a fan.
I think that the lottery is a fair system. I think that by being somewhat randomized, it doesn't favor the best or the worst teams. Although, some might say that the worst teams should get the best picks, I don't think that it matters that much. Even if teams get top picks, the player could be a bust and not really help the team out. I think I'm biased being a Celtics fan knowing that we have the first pick in the 2017 draft, but I still truly think that the lottery is a good system.
I think it is completely fair because it works in a good way to let the teams that needs help to get better players for next year. Otherwise there can never be underdogs which make the game fun and interesting. However it is unfair that the worst teams are not always guaranteed the best pick because it is obvious that teams still manipulate the lottery in order to game a better chance at receiving better picks by throwing away games. However overall it is a tricky system that will never be completely fair every year but I think it makes the best of what it has as of right now.
Although it seems like it stops the worst team from always getting the number one pick, but it does it with good reasoning. The lottery is made this way to stop teams from "tanking" on purpose by purposely losing games to try and get a better draft pick. The lottery was created to create a higher probability of getting the top pick the worse team you are. But it does not guarantee the first pick so sometimes it isn't worth tanking the season because it may not pay off. I like this concept and I think it makes it the most fair and also helps keep teams trying their hardest to win the most games they can everyday.
I think the lottery system is a fair system because it keeps the balance of some what equal ability between teams and it keeps teams from tanking seasons. The lottery was put in place to prevent teams from intentionally losing games at the end of a season just to get a better pick in the draft. If the NBA just gave the number 1 pick to the worst team every year then the bottom 3 teams would just battle it out for most losses verses now even the 17th best team has a chance at the number 1 pick. The lottery is a good balance that gives the bottom teams a greater chance at the top 3 picks but also offers an incentive to still try at the end of the season.
I think the lottery is a fair system because it doesn't guarantee the worse teams a better pick, however it does give them a good chance at a high pick. This type of system discourages team from throwing games in order to increase their chances at a guaranteed high draft spot. When worse teams are guaranteed a better pick in other sports, it may encourage the losing of games toward the end of the season and this gives the game a bad reputation and frustrates fans who take time to watch the games and buy tickets to see the games. Worse teams should not be given guaranteed rewards when winning team has worked so hard. Therefore I think the system helps give more opportunity for losing teams to make a comeback but is still fair to all teams.
It's a good system so that way rebuilding teams still have a good chance at a top pick but it also allows for the team to not tank. When teams tank, It really causes unfairness and such big seperation between the playoff and rebuilding teams. Playoff teams have inflated records while the tanking teams have amazing low winning percentages. No one likes quitters. The NBA lottery is a good system.
